The Lake Millstätter See region has plenty to offer in the way of culture and sport: The former Benedictine Abbey, with its collegiate church and cloisters, ranks among the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in Austria, and can look back on a 700 year-old history. |

| Millstatt, with its beautiful monastery, will remain unforgettable; not only for its picturesque setting, but also for its many cultural events from the music and art world, it’s lovely historic villas and the many festivals and leisure facilities. |

| One thousand statues of idols are said to have been sunk in Lake Millstätter See by the legendary founder of Millstatt, Domitian, after his conversion. The name “Millstatt” was derived from these "mille statuae" which have also inspired the laying out of Millstatt’s Statue Way, where sculptures, statues and carvings of renowned artists from the entire Alpe-Adria region adorn the squares and walks of modern Millstatt each summer. | ![]() |

| Sommeregg Castle is also well worth a visit. Thanks to its sunny position, the castle, built around 1080, remained for centuries the female seat of the Ortenburger. It was destroyed in the 15th. Century by Hungarian troops and has been carefully restored in more modern times. Nowadays, it has a comfortable restaurant, and in the knight's hall, the Museum of Torture: with its 400m² the largest in middle Europe. |

| The golf course is laid out on a plateau high above the Millstätter See. Its exclusive position offers a breathtaking panorama. The course is actually divided into two parts. The first nine holes call for a little stamina from the player, as these spread across "demanding" hilly countryside. To make up for this though, there is a continuous view over the Millstätter See. The other nine holes lie more on flatter ground. |

| With its hiking possibilities, the region around the Millstätter See has made a name for itself way beyond the Austrian borders. Walking at a height of 2000m and always having the Lake in sight is a unique experience! |

| The so-called Theme Walks are also exceptional, for instance the Sound footpath, the Legends walk, the Bee information trail, the Kneipp-, Bio- and Mill footpaths or the Theme Walks on the Millstätter Alps.
