"Bodies in the scenery"
An EU Leader+ funded project
Seeboden am Millstätter See, Kärnten

It was the European, and then the World Bodypainting Festival, that prompted the decision to use this theme, and put the Millstätter See region on show for longer than the festival week.

In order to get started on the many ideas, a budget was what was needed.
Consequently, Alex Barendregt, the initiator of the festival, submitted an EU Project.

In July 2002, notice of acceptance came for the Leader+ Funding Programme

The project was titled "Nature in it's most beautiful colours"

.

The aim is to try and bring long-term added value into the region through this project, and to increase the presence of the Millstätter See region with this theme.

The project encompasses a multitude of ideas, and these are being continuously put into practice by the Seeboden Touristik GmbH, which is responsible for the project.

Apart from the many marketing actions, June 2003 saw painted bodies being placed in the "scenery".

Bodies in the scenery:
30 figures, made out of a particular material, were specially finished by an Austrian firm. They are composed of carbon, and are hand-finished in the style of a Mannequin doll.
Ernst Wieser from Hermagor, who has been airbrushing and bodypainting for decades, painted the bodies to the specified themes. These were then finished with special lacquer and sealed.
The specified themes are quite varied. Themes like water and a mermaid are to be found directly by the lake, flowers and plants on the other hand in the park. In front of the confectioner's shop there's a slice of cake, and in front of the restaurant a body wreathed in vine leaves.
The lower part is fixed to a concrete base by a steel pipe, and secured with a padlock.
Partners from the local businesses in Seeboden were also found, who were willing to co-operate by putting painted bodies on show in the most frequented places in the town.
All 30 bodies were put up on show - just right for the World Bodypainting Festival from 22. - 27. July 2003.
These conspicuous bodies can be admired each year from May until October in Seeboden.
Here are some more photos, but these painted bodies are best seen on the spot with one's own eyes.
