"World Bodypainting Festival ®" 2003

A few words of thanks:

From a simple idea 6 years ago, I started with the first bodypainting festival in Europe. After two difficult years and a lot of work, the european bodypainting festival was born.

It took some time to get people used to this kind of art. At first no one –not even me- realized that we had formed a house: a house of art outside of brick walls. A living museum.
Art is a universal language spoken and understood by all.
Art is a feeling. Art is an uncontrollable desire. And bodypainting is an art.

And it is our obligation and our responsibility to work on, so that bodypainting establishes itself in people’s minds as an art.

This is your event, this is your festival. You here can welcome nations of artists at your festival.

It doesn't matter where you’re from, which religion or which colour you have: it doesn’t make a difference in our house.

Thanks to all who created this festival - to the artists, the models, teams, photographers, film makers, the press, and of course to all my helping hands.

We will be renaming our festival and hope to welcome you all at the world bodypainting festival 2004.

Please keep our house, our festival alive ! Peace !

Best whishes from Austria

At the following sites you will find a huge report with more than 1000 photos from the festival 2003. The report will be updated during the following weeks. So, please give us some time to update the information about all the artists and models from the festival. The complete results of the “World Bodypainting Award” in each category will be sent to everybody via post.
12.000 visitors came during the 3 main days to the festival grounds. The tropical heat was extremely trying for the models. I really must pay my respect to them.
Most of the participants also competed in the "World Bodypainting Award" contest.120 artists from 26 nations were registered. The World Bodypainting Award is presented annually in 3 categories: Brush/Sponge, Airbrush and Special Effects.

The following persons judged the artists in the competition:

Janny Cirpka (Ger) - Jannys Art Berlin, winner Special Effects 2002

Artists, photographers and models stayed till the early morning, during

the festival nights on the festival grounds.

In the photo-shooting area photographers could take perfect photos of the painted models.
Different backgrounds and equipment were specially prepared for the shooting area.

The video-film makers too, got plenty of inspiration for a perfect bodypainting production.

A great bodypainting performance was presented by the artist Mike Shane from Luxembourg.
