"World Bodypainting Festival ®"
Seeboden, Lake Millstatt / Austria

17th - 23rd July 2006

A few words of thanks:
Art History. An artists is a person who interprets the world inside and around themselves, critics and analyses, and then expresses. Artists are an important part of our world. They inspire us, remind us of beauty and hold a critical eye on the development of our society. No matter how far back in history or how wide into the future you look, the world can always be viewed best through the eye of an artists.

Artists from throughout the whole world have not only interpreted the theme 'art history' at the World Bodypainting Festival, they have created their own personal histories.

I have put the effort into creating a quality and worthful Bodypaiting event to offer a wonderful backdrop for artists from around the world. It is also important to offer a framwork of program to attract a crowd great enough to admire and treasure this amazing work. There was something for every taste with International Music and Show Acts on top of the fantastic bodyapinting presentations. Even though many people didn't make it through the heat wave to the festival grounds we were still able to welcome 15.000 visitors onto the festival grounds over the three main days.

I would like to heartfuly thank all of the bodypainting artists as well as the models who have the hardest work over the days. I would also like to thank all of the helpers and supporters who travel here with artists, the photographers and reporters and of course to the jury and the festival crew a special thank you.

I look forward to the ten year celebrations of the World Bodypainting Festival next year and invite you to join our celebrations.

Greetings from Seeboden and see you soon
Alex Barendregt

This years festival was imprinted with a heatwave. Some day visitors prefered to stay in the shade or by the lake so we were not quite able to follow up the results from last year.

Over the main days from Friday the 21st to Sunday the 23rd of July the World Bodypainting Awards were given.

The tropical heat wave this year was particularly challenging for the models and artists and demanded extreem concentration and patience over the hours.

The World Bodypainting Awards were given in three categories:

  • Brush and Sponge

On friday afternoon while the brush and sponge artists were at work, the public were blown away by "Stamping Feet", the thunderstorm from Berlin.

The evening was beautiful with cooling temperatures and a renound Australian band called "Loonaloop" who livened up the audience befor the fantastic presentations from the participants in the UV award. In this contest the Jury also judges the presentation on the stage which is an inspiration the contestants to organise fantastic stage presentations.

The UV award is limited to 15 artists whov are selected before the festival. These artists coming from 13 nations had 2 1/2 hours to finish their work. The whole festival grounds and stage area were in blackout at 12pm so that the models were lit only by blacklight.
