The 17th World Bodypainting Festival has come to an end with explosive fireworks cheering on the new World Champions in a range of categories. The art of bodypainting has taken on cult status throughout the world in the past decade. A small town in Austria becomes the mecca of body art annually as hundreds of artists converge from around the world to test their skills against the worlds best.
This year has proved to be tough competition with some amazing stories. The top ten artists in the brush and sponge category came from nine different countries with Riina Laine from Finland coming up on top. In the Special Effects category Gabriela Hajek-Renner from Austria brought back a world Champion title to home soil. In the airbrush category artist Alex Hansen from Brazil won first place taking home a trophy that he had coincidentally also designed for the competition.
Perhaps the most exciting wins of the festival were by Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco from the USA who took home first places in face painting and UV effects. These artists have won every other World Title available making them the only artists in history to take out five world champion titles in five categories.
After the excitement of thousands of visitors dancing to live music as artists painted all weekend, the festival came to an end with its famous colour splash after show party. Hundreds of people throw and spread paint upon each other as DJ's from London pump out original beets. If only the whole world were this colourful!
